Alissa Hamilton is interviewed in a recent Los Angeles Times piece that argues fruit juice "poses the same obesity-related health risks as Coke, Pepsi and other widely vilified beverages." As readers of Squeezed will note, it's often these same companies who formulate the fruit juices that find their way into our grocery stores.
There is also the question of a more concentrated serving size. As Hamilton points out in the piece, "You consume more oranges if you drink them than if you eat them whole," indicating that fruit juice drinkers are ingesting more calories than they might if they simply ate the orange itself.
