Are all biopsies performed virtually the same way? I've heard they hurt a lot and was curious as I've been doing some research on fatty liver and have seen a biopsy procedure as one of the best ways to diagnose the condition.

DJ

Dear DJ,

A liver biopsy is usually performed under CAT scan guidance today and is relatively painless. A bone marrow biopsy is still performed the old fashioned way as I explained.

Many thanks,

Dr. Frank
